Oracle OBIEE Administration
- Installation and Configuration: Installing Oracle OBIEE software, configuring BI domain, configuring BI components such as Oracle BI Server, Oracle BI Presentation Services, Oracle BI Scheduler, and Oracle BI Java Host.
- Metadata Management: Managing metadata repositories (RPD – Repository Metadata File) that define the logical business model, mappings, aggregations, and calculations used in OBIEE reports and analyses.
- User Management and Security: Configuring user authentication (using LDAP, Active Directory, or OBIEE’s built-in security), managing user roles, permissions, and privileges within OBIEE to ensure secure access to reports and data.
- Dashboard and Report Development: Working with business users and developers to design, develop, and deploy interactive dashboards, reports, and analyses using OBIEE’s web-based interface or Oracle BI Answers.
- Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitoring system performance metrics (CPU, memory, disk I/O), query performance, and BI Server performance tuning (optimizing cache settings, query optimizations) to ensure efficient data retrieval and responsiveness.
- Integration with Data Sources: Configuring OBIEE to integrate with various data sources including Oracle databases, SQL Server, MySQL, and other relational databases, as well as non-relational sources like Hadoop and NoSQL databases.
- Backup and Recovery: Implementing backup and recovery strategies for OBIEE metadata repositories, configuration files, and system components to ensure data integrity and quick recovery in case of failures.
- Patch Management and Upgrades: Applying patches, updates, and upgrades to OBIEE software, including patches for security vulnerabilities and bug fixes, and upgrading to newer versions of OBIEE to benefit from new features and improvements.
- Capacity Planning and Scalability: Estimating resource requirements (CPU, memory, storage) based on usage patterns and business growth, and planning for scalability by configuring OBIEE clusters, load balancing, and scaling out BI components.
- Change Management and Deployment: Managing configuration changes, version control of RPD files and BI artifacts, and deploying changes across OBIEE environments (development, test, production) while ensuring consistency and minimizing downtime.
- Automation and Scripting: Developing scripts and automation routines using scripting languages (like WLST for WebLogic Server) or OBIEE scripting (nqcmd) to automate routine tasks, deployments, and configuration updates.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining documentation of OBIEE configurations, deployments, and procedures, and generating reports on system usage, performance metrics, and compliance with organizational policies and standards.
